Redesigning Craigslist’s user experience

Design exercise in redesigning, improving and redefining the Craigslist user experience for desktop and mobile. The goal was straight forward: giving Craigslist a more visual identity, modern web features, friendlier navigation and responsive design that works equally well on desktop & mobile.

  • A global advertising network focused primarily on housing and selling goods
  • Enabling users to post something and enabling users to find something
  • The average age of the users is between 18 – 55 years
  • Actively used in 70 countries – 570 cities
  • Website’s infrastructure is built around lists and categories
  • The current website design is unchanged since its start in 1995

Modern Redesign

  • Updated the Craigslist logo colour to a clean light blue colour. Setting the tone and direction for the new brand identity
  • Customisable feed-style page with personalised sections, custom calendars and events
  • Most recent items for sale, based on search results
  • Focus on categories, geolocation and search optimisation
  • Native and embedded video for services and advertisers
  • Adding favourite listings to personal profile and sharing lists
  • Notification center with active biddings, listings, activity and events

  • Campaigns, advertisements and community announcements
  • Quick filters for product sorting and search
  • Price ranges for listing items
  • Filter on brands and price with slider
  • Responsive user customizable content
  • Footer includes links to FAQ, help, jobs and mobile version

  • Menu with horizontal swiping category swiping
  • Tap to fold out list with sub categories
  • Auto slider banner with latest community posts and events
  • Personalised calendar synchronised to iCal, Google Calendar and Outlook
